The game is set during the period of 1920s to 1930s. In the
city, you are a private detective for hire working exclusively
on murder cases. To solve these cases, you need to interview
suspects and townspeople. This being a mystery game, I will
not be going into too much details about the game play. Rather,
general information about this game will be provided.
The Detective:
Upon solving the case, you be awarded money and skills points.
Both are very important as you need the money to buy equipment,
pay bribes etc. This game is also sort of a strategy game and
you need time to built up the skills of your character.
Archtype and Skills:
The archtype of your character determines how much skill points
you need to learn certain skills. It is usually best for new
player to attain tough OR charm skills first. Smart skill is
important for all detectives as you need it to search the crime
scenes.
Equipment:
Equipment will enhance the skills that you had but it doesn't
give you any skill by itself. So buy or choose your equipment
wisely. You can get equipment in 3 ways. First, buy it from
the detective shop. Secondly, buy it from the political factions
where you have good standing with. Lastly, equipment can be
obtain by doing favors for the townspeople. Each detective can
only carry 4 equipment at all time.
Favors:
These are actually cases which you do for the townspeople. Upon
completing the favors, you will be given a piece of equipment.
To do favors, do not open any cases. Go to the city and ask
anyone of the townspeople whether they need any favor done.
If the townspeople tell you there is currently no favor, it
means none of the townspeople need to have any favor done. Move
on with your own case. If there is a favor. The townspeople
will instruct you which townspeople needed favor from you. So,
you actually only need to ask just one townspeople.
Contacts:
In some cases, when you do favors for the townspeople, instead
of giving you an equipment as reward, that townspeople become
your contact. That person will no longer clamped up on you no
matter how many questions you ask them. You can have only 2
contacts in each city.
False accuse:
This happens when you accused a suspect who is not the murderer.
Your character will be retired from the game and you can't play
with that character anymore if you make 3 false accuse. To prevent
this from happening, you can pay a visit to "the shady character"
at the bar.
Special Townspeople:
There are few townspeople which have some special role in
this game. In order not to spoil the fun and surprise, I'll only
introduce them briefly.
1. The Shady Character - This person play a very important role
in the game. With a certain sum of money, he will clear off your
false accuse record which will be set back to 0. You can pay him
off while having 1 false accuse or 2 false accuse. Take note that
the higher your experience points, the more money shady will demand
from you.
2. Larry the Toe - He will look for you and you can't look for
him. Instructions will be given as to what to do when he did appear
before you. Larry only appear in New York.
3. Big Lucy - A common problem is players "couldn't"
find Lucy. This is not a bug. There will be no difference on the
map while searching for her. Read the direction carefully and
take note of the changes in your cursor. She only appear in New
York.
4. Fortune Teller - He can be found in all the cities. With a
small fee, he can provide you with information which can be very
helpful in solving your case.
