13th Aug 03: Dropdrop
Been real tired. Waking up at 0600 hrs is no fun. Sleeping is a waste of time. My 5k timing has been further shaved to 22 m 15 s. Promised Jack we'll do the last practice run at Sentosa and perhaps try out the new surf boards this Saturday. 16th Aug 03: New Board
6th Sept 03: With the paeds clinical test pushed back, I'm finally taking a much needed breather. Write up's done, but there's still a professorial presentation and debate to get over with. I'm not complaining. This paeds posting goes right up there with my A & E posting --- superb ! Now, a sneak preview at my current distraction:
14th Sept 03: Sheares Bridge Woke up at an unearthly 0400 hrs. Started the Sheares Bridge Run at 0545 hrs. Gham Seng was pacing me and I eventually finished the half marathon under 2 hrs. Been severely sleep deprived for 2 weeks. 6 hours is just not enough for me. Last week of paeds posting left. I'm going to try to get 7 hours of sleep nightly. Otherwise, my running nose is not going to leave me. Grey skies now. Miserably humid weather. A certain Prof. says learning from patients is good enough, but I probably need to consolidate by hitting the books real hard this week. 21th Sept 03: Post Paeds Suddenly, there is some sort of hailstorm outside. Extremely big raindrops. As if to reflect the poignancy of my current mood. Didn't read enough to discuss febrile seizures properly. Too much breadth, too little depth. Time mismanagement. Tutoring in the evenings often left me too shacked to do any reading in the nights. I had a nagging running nose in the weeks leading to my 10k and half marathon. Often, I was too lifeless to train on the free evenings after those long days at NUH. The theory test on Saturday was a disaster. Nebulous questions on cardiac, emergency protocols that were long forgotten from my A&E days and droopy eyelids. None of the standard asthma, cerebral palsy, down syndrome, fluid management, electrolyte imbalance ... I'm probably not doing the Std-Chart marathon. No one to run with. Friends all feel that $30 participation fee is too high. At least my last run this year is a personal best. That's it for 2003. Now that my short postings are starting, it's time to readjust . 1st Oct 03:Time Waster For 3 whole days, I've been adjusting the settings of my IE 6.0, trying to figure out why the hotmail account I've been using with no problems for 8 years suddenly died on me. Prior to this, I had been cajoled by 2 friends to set up a profile at friendster.com. Had to change my security settings as some of it were not in agreement with friendster.com. Didn't realise I overrided hotmail cookies in the process. Then proceeded to spend agonising hours over 3 days adjusting my security level, changing my msn password, all to no avail. Sheesh... it was that silly cookie block option that overrides my browser security settings. That's been dealt with. Recently, I've been reading the running journal of my ex jc class rep - running mate, Gham Seng. His writings are certainly humorous. With him chronicling our major run events, there will be no need for me to repeat on my blog! A pity starhub doesn't give him sufficient space to put up some of his cool graphics. He's training for the stand-chart (1/2 or full depending on his condition then), all the best to him in this and other endeavours * wink wink *. I'm taking a hiatus from competitive events till next year, but will still be training so that I can keep pace with him next year. Ophthamology has been enjoyable so far, but how I wish indirect ophthalmoscopes were cheaper so that we don't have to strain our eyes to see through the smaller view scopes of direct ophthamoloscopes. I long for a couple-months seaside vacation ala Takeshi Sorimachi and Yutaka Takenouchi in Beach Boys. 14th Oct 03: Ear, Nose, Throat My short postings, done mainly at SGH, have been relaxing so far; and this is starting to make me believe that I can possibly survive the next 1.5 years. Had an allergy skin test done on myself today. 19 pricks of a battery of antigens later, I'm extremely allergic to Dermatophagoides Pteronyssinus & D. Farinae (2 species of dust mites), and somewhat allergic to the American Cockroach. Not cat hair though. Not pollen, not grass. Have been keeping a routine for sometime. 1. 6 min ab regime at least 5 days/week > to build good torso support when I return to competitive running next year. 2. Tinkling the ivories regularly > what else? for relaxation & nimble fingers! 3. Made 2 birthday cards for late Sep & early Oct. Extremely satisfied with the later card, unconventional and not-card-like. Think effect on recipient is good. This should set the trend of a deviation from the traditional card for all my future cards. Concept for my next card popped up few days ago. Likely to begin making during patho posting. Am gonna add in guitar practise and digitalise the rest of my chemistry resources (if I get more JC chem students for 2004). All the best to my students doing Os/ Promos/ As ! |
