DN2380 Principles of Game Design prev | upnext

2005-2006 Semester 1, 2002-2003 Semester 1, 2001-2002 Semester 2, 60 hour module for year 2 Games students.

This is the introductory module for Games students. It provides a grounding in the principles of designing a fun game, including gameplay, rules, interactivity, replayability, risk and reward, balancing, and playtesting. It also covers the game development process and the production pipeline, to prepare students for project work. Allan Simonsen and I took over this module in 2002 and completely redesigned it. Initially this module was offered to DMD students taking the Games Design specialization. When the Diploma in Digital Entertainment Technology was started in 2005, this module was also offered to DET students taking the Games Programming track.
