Calliope is a multi-user shared text editor designed and built as part of my M.Sc. thesis. It was designed based on an extensive field study carried out at the Huron Public School in Toronto, during which I observed how grade 6 children worked together using a shared text editor to create a magazine.

Based on these observations, I derived a set of design requirements, and prototyped the resulting design using tcl/tk and GroupKit.

This project required that I explore and understand the interactions between the children, and how these interactions were mediated by technology. From this understanding, I had to create an interface which would smoothly fit into the social context of the group.
