Hearing aids come in a wide range of sizes and styles, with the most popular being the In-The-Ear (ITE), the In-The-Canal (ITC), and the Completely-In-the-Canal (CIC). These three styles are called custom hearing aids because the shell of the hearing aid is "custom built" for the size and shape of your ear.

Another popular style is the Behind-The-Ear (BTE) hearing aid.

The In-The-Ear (ITE) hearing aid is the largest custom built hearing aid that fills the entire ear. It is usuallly used for user with mild and severe hearing losses. Due to it's larger size, a bigger battery can be used (for longer battery life), and it also provides the flexibility to add options such as multiple microphones (for improved listening in noise) and telephone coils (for improved phone listening), particularly for soft voices or noisy areas.

The In-The-Canal (ITC) hearing aid is more discreet than the ITE as it fits more into the ear canal. The ITC can be provided for mild to moderate hearing losses. It is a popular choice for it's cosmetic appeal and also an excellent choice for telephone users. The ITC provides improved high frequency sound over the ITE because of it's size and position in the ear.

The Completely-In-the-Canal (CIC) hearing aid is the most discreet as it can be fitted entirely into the ear canal. CIC hearing aids have a number of potential benefits.

The CIC can be fitted for losses up to the severe range because of it's depth in the canal.
Reduced echo in your own voice called the "occlusion effect"
Cosmetic appeal
Reduced amplification of wind noise
Able to be worn while using headphones
Able to be worn during sleeping
Improved telephone use
Improved high frequency hearing
Reduced gain requirements, resulting in less chance of feedback
