Overview

A boardgame for the OR freak!

Players take on the role of a elfin traveller who needs to travel through 20 cities and end the game in a randomly determined secret location. One point is scored for each city passed through, and one point is deducted for each space the player is removed from the secret location at the end of the game. Highest scorer wins. Simple.

Game Components

The beautiful board depicts a fantasy land with 20 cities connected by rivers and roads through different terrain, such as plains, forests and deserts.

Numeous cards and cardboard counters (referred to as chits) represent the transportation resources available to a player. Wooden coloured pieces are used to mark the cities the players visited during their travels.

Lastly, 6 wooden shoes are used represent the players' elves during their travels.

Game Mechanics

The game is divided into four turns. Each turn, players draw cards and chits representing the different transportation available to him.

Then, players place the chits on the roads connecting the cities. Each road can in general only have one chit played on it, except for an obstruction chit.

A road can only be used if it has chit played on it; it does not matter which player played it. A player moves his piece by playing cards (one or two depending on terrain and mode of transport) corresponding to the chit played. An obstruction chit will increase this by one card.

Comments

Because a player has more cards than chits, they may have to cooperate to a certain extent to make use of each other's chits. However, this may also depend on the cards available to each player during any given turn. A wrong chit played at a critical location can mess up the best laid plans.

A simple game that is more involved than is first looks. Highly recommended!
