Players seek to create the most successful caravan chains through the desert, by creating the longest caravan chains, enclosing the largest areas and by linking up to the most waterholes and oasis.
Each player start with five different coloured camels, representing different caravans. Each turn, they may take two camels from a central pool of camels and place them onto the map, extending their own caravan chains. Camels have to be adjacent to at least one camel of the same colour belonging to the same player. In addition, they may not be placed adjacent to camels of the same colour belonging to another player, thus preventing a merging of two rival caravans.
Game ends when camels of any colour is exhausted.
Players score for having their caravans pass through water holes, going adjacent to an oasis, and encircling an area, preventing other caravans from entering it. Players also get points for having the largest caravan in each colour.
Simple game mechanics, but the strategy is involved. As there are different elements in scoring, these form competing demands on the two camels a player gets each turn. Does one play camels to retain majority in one colour, or play a different coloured camel and race for the oasis? A must for any "German" game player.
