[Friday,
June 27, 2003 11:48 PM] anyway.. today has otherwise been a pretty good day. got to book out last night cos today's family day and there's a function at safra yishun which we had to attend. got to play around with the air rifles and pistols at the range there for free. definitely more fun than the m16 since we get to shoot in the comfort of an air con room, and with the press of a button, the target flies back to you. heh. no dumb run downs and stuff like that. after we were dismissed from safra.. we crossed the road to get a cab. and guess what we found on the pavement. a gigantic python that must have been more than 2 metres long. it was damn agitated and whenever we approached it, it sprang up, ready to attack. my friend called the police before someone gets injured by it. yup.. waited for bout 10 mins for the police to arrive. my sergeants just happened to be across the road when they saw a police car park beside us.. and thought we got into trouble for illegal gathering. haha. they ran across immediately to check it out. in the end our sergeants were the ones helping the police capture the snake cos the 2 policemen were too scared of it. haha. the first policeman, a corporal, was using a pole with a loop of rope attached at the end to try and get the snake's head, while the other guy who's a sergeant tried to put it in a sack. well, when the snake struggled the corporal let go of the rope and seeing that the snake's being released the sergeant guy jumped back. haha what a sight. they decided to swop positions.. but still couldn't manage to capture it. this was when our sergeants decided to come in and help, and in no time the snake was securely tied in the sack. geez how could we trust those police to keep singapore safe? went beach road to get our army stuff after that. saf sucks man, give us so little allowance n then still make us buy so much stuff. got my ground sheet, torch, lots of black tape, whistle pouch, carabiner, n some other stuff to make my sbo look funky. haha. walked to shaw towers to catch charlie's angel after we got our stuff. hmm i realised this is the first time my section pple have gone out as a group. oh yah i haven't posted anything about my new army unit yet. its called ATEC. army training evaluation centre. basically our job is to fight against commandos, guards, all the infantry units, armour.. blahblah. we'll be their enemies during their exercises and umpires will be around to see how well they perform, and then decide if they're ready to fight should a war occur. i'm still in the training wing at the moment. will complete my course by mid september. can't wait to pass out of my course.. sucks man. its almost the same as sispec aslc i heard. lots and lots and lots and lots of outfield training. sigh. but the good thing is that we get to learn all the weapons and stuff. hmm.. hope its fun. oh yah btw during the exercises, for each commando scout we catch we get 2 days off, and for each normal scout we catch we get a day off. haha guess this is the best motivation they can provide to make us work hard. oh and before we ORD we'll be sent for guards conversion course cos this unit won't need us during reservist. hmm quite cool.. can't wait to get my khaki beret. hehe. [Sunday,
June 15, 2003 11:51 PM] collected my posting results yesterday.. was hoping i'd get into MP, or at the very worst.. sispec. but the most unexpected happened. GUARDS. underpaid commandos. they do the exact same thing as commandos except that commandos parachute from planes while guards do heli-rapelling. yah and they get paid a lot less. sigh. i think i'd rather get into commandos. For Honour and Glory. haha. oh well not like i have a choice. will just see how it goes. anyway after collecting my postings, went out for lunch at tampines mall with my section mates. 2 of them drove, just nice for the 10 of us. yeah after lunch my friend who lives a bus stop away from me drove me home in his super cool modified honda civic. he modified practically every modifiable part of his car. haha damn ah beng, but its damn cool. he drove down SLE at 180-200km/h, overtaking every car in sight. never been in a car travelling at such speeds before. simply breathtaking i tell u. it was drizzling.. and you could see the water droplets fly upwards instead of rolling down the windscreen. yup and he had to turn off his aircon before accelerating cos he was going so fast it'd damage the compressor. after dropping off a friend at yck mrt, he let me take over the wheel as promised. haha i was quite nervous at first.. never handled such a powerful car before. my legs were literally shaking when i sped thru the road for the first 5 mins or so but gradually became more confident and drove up to around 140kmh i think. he kept asking me to speed up and not to worry about damaging his car. haha. now i'm even more desperate to have a car of my own. okay guess its time to pack my stuff for tomorrow. have to reach pasir laba camp at 9am. hope i won't be late. will be meeting kenny before going in together. heh he's like the only person i know who's going guards other than my buddy. only 2 of us (me and my buddy) from my entire platoon is being posted to guards, and kenny is the only guy from his platoon to be posted there. derek said nobody from his platoon got into guards. hmmm i think guards are only meant for the elite. hehe. k i'm off to pack my stuff. [Tuesday,
June 10, 2003 10:12 PM] went sa to collect my cert yesterday. heh fiona drove me and jo there. sigh i want my own car too. drove to orchard after that and walked around. wanted to catch a show but the queue at lido was soooo darn long. grr hate the sch hols. haha. met up with derek and yiwei later on. can't believe 5 days have passed so quickly. time passes damn slowly in camp. its like every sunday night when we book in, we start counting down to the next bookout day. guess all the counting down makes the days seem really long. hmm.. only 5 more days to enjoy before i'll have to report to my new unit.. yeah finally passed out of bmt! heh. i'm no longer a chao recruit.. promoted to a private already. no idea where i'll be posted to next.. will be getting the posting results next sat. hope i'll get into MP.. hehe. the 24km route march wasn't as bad as i expected. in fact i think it was a lot less tiring than the 16km one. smuggled a radio receiver to listen to while marching, and the music sure helped alleviate the tiredness. hid the receiver in my webbing pouch, and the wires in the straps. and with my helmet, its almost impossible to notice i've got earphones on, especially in the dark. haha. my fieldpack was only filled with a blown up plastic bag, and my slippers to give it a nice flat shape, unlike during the 16km march where we were made to fill it with the standard items which weighed no less than 15kg in all. the only weight on my shoulders this time round came only from the water bottles and rifle. hmm just cant get this song out of my head.. its damn irritating. sang it repeatedly during the route march.
(to the tune of que sera) haha quite cool rite. we came up with the lyrics ourselves. yah but seriously i really wonder where i'm gonna be posted to. i want to go mp, probably the slackest place i'm eligible for, but its not that easy. even if i'm selected to join mp, should ocs (which is impossible) or sispec want me, i'll have to go with them. yeah.. so.. just wish me luck. i'm dead tired after not getting proper rest for 2 whole days. played around with my platoonmates till past midnight the night before, and had our 24km route march which lasted from 8.30pm last night to 4am early this morning. desperately need to get some proper sleep..
