Bedok Jetty
15 Oct 02- contributed by Melvyn, a BJ regular. (Check out his webpage .) A month ago, 3 Barras were landed at the jetty in the space of one week. They weighed in at 5.9kg, 6.8kg and 4.5kg respectively. It was something similiar to last year's action but the barras arrived rather late. Another kaki lost 2, but there was no visual of the fish. They were suspected to be Kims from the way they took the bait and dashed right under the jetty, cutting off the lines in the process. A nice 1.0kg Snapper added to the variety. Some advance party squid were netted too.
Around 2 weeks after the landing of the barras, it was the threadfin salmon's turn to pay the jetty a visit. Again, in the space of 8 days, 3 were landed. Kenny @ Haven (Check out his page too, he's got some nice pics of the BJ Kurau.)landed 2, below 1.5kg and 2.3kg. Another angler also landed a bigger specimen, but it was not weighed.
However, currents seem to be erratic this year. On days when it was supposed to be neap tide, it was layang all the way for one tide run. The squid are not turning up this year, save for those advance party stragglers. IMO, seems that the new CNB jetty is changing all the migration patterns of the fish. Been hearing consistent reports of good sized snappers landed from within the base jetty with handlines, taking away most of the fun on rod and line.
25Oct02- went to bj for a walk, caught a pelagic. haha... anyway, the tamban schools were there, but were especially prominent in the morning, according to kenny, who's now a bj regular. No significant catches there over the last two weekends, since the kuraus... going according to probability, this weekend might produce something big at bj.
Changi Naval Base
25Oct02- Tried to recce the area yesterday. Intercepted by heavily armed guards. But they were very friendly and helpful. Seems that security has been beefed up and there's no where to park, cos there's a traffic cop stationed there throughout the day (i guess to deter illegal parking) and the carpark beside the naval base is now a checkpoint, full of soldiers.
