My name is Chris. I once worked as an assistant research officer(Entomology) in the Singapore Botanic Gardens. Although I am not a psychologist, I have read books on mental disorders. I had also suffered from depression long time ago. So, you can be sure I understand you, if you are depressed. In case you don't know what is Entomology, it is about the study of insects.

    I have some advice for people who are suffering from depression; Jesus said "Come unto me all ye who are weary and heavily laden and I will give you rest." Is not it great to come to Jesus when you are in trouble? Just confess your sins and whatever to God; accept Jesus as your personal saviour and receive His healing touch. Faith is very important. Do not look at circumstances around you. Trust in the Lord.


    I was once depressed long ago. I looked at all the things that are tumbling around me. I felt hopeless and helpless. That is the LIE OF THE DEVIL! Don't be like St. Peter who looked at the waves and sank into the water because of his little faith. Trust in God! For so long I suffered at the hands of the Devil. I was going round and round in an endless vicious circle. To break it, you need just a little more faith. God works all things for the good of those who love Him. Like me, when you have come out of the deep depression, you will see the truth, and the truth will set you free!


    I know it is hard to free yourselves from this depression. Do you get up in the morning and wished that you have died? Do you feel like committing suicide? Are you always tired and always in a bad mood? Has your appetite changed? These are just some symptoms of depression. What I am talking about is major depression, and not manic depression. If you are a backslided Christian, God still cares. Look at the parable of the prodigal son. God is always waiting for you to come back. I came back and was partly delivered. At least, my mood is better.


    Now, for the non-Christians; I wish to tell you that there is a God who cares. And this God is none other than Jehovah. If you do not believe me, I will not blame you. It is the Holy Spirit who does the leading and I am only a tool to tell you my story. I suffered for 10 years under the spiteful hands of Satan and his demons. I even talked to Satan and joked with him. Satan did not give me what I want! He is only out to destroy, especially Christians. I learnt from this lesson never again to rebel and trust in myself or Satan. One last word, may God bless you and help you with whatever pain that you might have. May the saving grace of God be upon you.


    God's love for you is beyond your imagination!


    God longs to heal you through His Son Jesus!


    God is good! Amen!

    Presently, there is an outbreak of an insect pest called Brontispa longissima on coconut palms in Singapore.
    It is found that this insect mainly attacks coconut palms. However, it is also found on cabbage palms and other palms, although the damage is minimal. It could be probably due to rainy season or the lack of natural enemies.
    I have gone round with my boss to Bedok Park, East Coast Park, Kallang Park and many more. This is serious! B. longissima hates light and it likes closed and soft young leaves of the palms. Common symptoms include scraping of surface of leaves, browning of leaves, presence of larva and so on.
    We recommend that drenching of the spear of the coconut palm with Rogor(Dimethoate) be done. Carbofuran can also be used but it is highly toxic. We recommend putting the granules in cloth bags and inserting them near the top of the tree.

    The beetle can attack other palms like Washingtonia sp.,Pritchardia sp.,Veitchia merilli, and Roystonea sp., Ptychosperma sp. and many more! This is no joke!
