Welcome to
Classics from the Silver Screen,
an index of classical and opera music used in
feature films. Entries are sorted by movie title and composer, and the navigation index is in the left-hand margin. Now in its eleventh year,
Classics from the Silver Screen currently contains over 170 composers, 930 movie titles and 1700 individual classical and opera entries.
As I cannot watch
all the movies ever made or identify all the music, there will be pieces which I
have missed. I have thus concentrated on listing more recent or well-known films.
Some entries have icons next to them, which you can click to buy the
book
,
movie
or
soundtrack
.
The classical works listed under each entry do not always appear on
the soundtrack, so check carefully before you buy.
All
references are checked against The Concise Oxford Dictionary of Music (M Kennedy) and
The Da Capo Catalog of Classical Music Compositions (J Chwialkowski). For
more classical music resources, you can visit
ClassicalNet. If you are searching for obscure or non-English films, you can also try the
Internet Movie Database.
I am always open to suggestions and contributions for anything
that I might have missed. Just drop me a line at benjamin@inkpot.com. Do read the
FAQ first, though, if you have a question.
